Although this story is a work of fiction the societal issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two‐Spirit (MMIWG2S) people is a social issue that impacts everyone across Canada. According to a 2013 RCMP report there have been 1200 known cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two‐Spirit people and this does not include unreported cases (RCMP, 2014). The 2013 RCMP Report only provides a snapshot of ongoing violence Indigenous women, girls, and Two‐Spirit people encounter while living in Canada.

There are many resources available to educate yourself on this topic, a few of which are listed at the back of this book.
