Introduction, Traditional Teachings and Honoring Grief and Loss

With Mary Ann Shoefly & Judy Sackaney

Overview of the sessions, opening circle.

Traditional teachings relative to rites of passage, prophecies, historical impacts on Indigenous people, blood memory and provide alternative cultural translations of their stories – “Gifts.”

Included in these workshops will be discussions around the role of Harm Reduction in ceremonies, understanding the historical influences affecting us and the long-term effects of accumulated grief and loss. To explore the issue is to reach an understanding and develop healthier coping skills. This acknowledgment enables us to develop our own sense of personal power.
