CALL OUT FOR INDIGENOUS WOMAN ARTISTS / ARTIST TEAMS.
RED EMBERS, Allan Gardens Toronto
NWRCT, Red Embers and Park People’s Public Space Incubator present our large scale banner installation in Allan Gardens. http://parkpeople.ca/publicspaceinc/ The 13 installations will honour Grandmother Moon as the leader of feminine life and to honour those who have experienced violence or assault with Grandmother Moon offering healing and balance to their lives. The installations will provide a platform for artists to share their work and collaboratively design banners that represent, honour and intervention to all Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women while engaging the community in healing and gathering through execution and observance of the banners.
The installation will be on display from May 2019 – Autumn of 2019 – lending a powerful backdrop to the NWRCT annual MMIW vigil on October 4th.
Artists are encouraged to focus on a contemporary jingle or ribbon skirt design / theme in honour of a matriarchal identity, community strength and perseverance of the female roles and traditions.
Artists must source their own working studios and materials. weather resistant and UV protected red fabric and a budget of $150.00 for materials that are locally sourced or Indigenous manufactured will be provided to each artist to execute their piece.
